Car of the Week: 1967 Chevy II Nova

1967 Chevy II Nova
Jeff's Nova is a full chassis car with a Chassis Engineering square tube frame with a 14pt. cage. The roll cage was re-welded by Mitch's Custom Fabrications and NHRA certified to 8.50 ET. Shocks are Aldan Eagle coil-overs on all four corners. Jeff's Nova sits on Weld wheels with Mickey Thompson front runners and Hoosier Quick Time Pro DOT slicks on the rear. Wilwood discs on all 4 corners provide stopping power and Flaming River steering wheel, column, and linkage connect to the rack and pinion steering. Auto Meter helps Jeff keep track of the engines operating parameters. The Nova's interior was done by Jeff and the paint, which is one of the few things he hasn't changed is a Cranberry Pearl with ghost flames on the inside and outside of the fenders. The Nova sports a 383 Chevy SBC machined and built by TGs Performance in Hawthorne, Ca. It has an Eagle forged rotating assembly and J&E forged blower pistons for 8.5 to 1 compression. Sitting atop the AFR 210 aluminum heads is a Blower Shop 8-71 blower. Two BG Mighty Demon 750 carbs sit on Wilson Manifolds Nitrous Pro-Flow dual N2O plate system set at 75HP top it off. A Herbert custom ground roller cam with .652/.663 lift actuate the 2.10/1.6 valves thru a set of Jesel Sportsman shaft rockers. APS Racing Products in Canada hand built the aluminum sheet metal valve covers. ARP fasteners were used through out the engine. The Nova has a dual cooling system to handle the Southern California heat with the secondary system being mounted underneath the trunk area using a Meziere pump and the primary cooling system up front using a CSR pump. With all the electrical equipment Jeff uses he needed a large alternator so a 110 amp unit was installed on the engine. Mitch's Custom Fabrications in El Monte, Ca. fabricated the 2 inch headers with 3.5 inch collectors. Spintech custom built mufflers were used to make the Nova somewhat quieter than open headers, although Jeff says his neighbors might disagree. Connecting the engine with the TCI TH400 transmission (#212500) with reverse pattern manual valve body is a 3500 stall converter by The Converter Shop. A B&M Street Bandit shifter handles the gear changes. Out back a power coated Ford 9 inch rear with Moser 31 spline axles and a 5:00 gear is fed by an Inland Empire Driveline Service built driveshaft. Jeff also has another center section with 4.30s and a Detroit Locker fro those longer cruises. While Jeff is reluctant to sell the car, he has come to the realization that while cars come and go, his family is once in a lifetime and they deserve more time than they were receiving. So Jeff is looking to put his pride and joy into someone else's hands for safe keeping and Saturday night enjoyment.
