2009 Good Guys Show
Well, we saw the GoodGuys PPG Nationals come to Columbus, Ohio this past weekend. It was a great weekend even though the weather wasn't
all that great. It rained off and on during Saturday's show but Sunday was a great day. The show featured thousands of Killer 1972 and earlier Hot Rods, Classic Cars, Muscle Cars and Trucks.
The show is one of the largest in the country and is a must for those who are into hot rodding. The show features an autocross competition,
swap meet, for sale area, indoor vendor area and much more.
On Friday the engines were roaring with the vendor autocross and street machine of the year competition.
The vendor autocross featured Cobra NASA racer entered by Factory Five, a 33 Hot Rod owned by Street Rodder magazine, and a 70 Challenger
entered by the Hotchkis team. Street Machine of the Year went to the C1RS Corvette owned by Barry Blomquist.
The C1RS was built by The Roadster Shop of Mundelein, Il with the help of artist Eric Brockmeyer .
This striking 1962 Corvette is a blend of old and new. The look of the car is refined 1962 but everything
under the skin is designed to get the power to the pavement and to keep the tires glued to the blacktop. This
engineering achievement allowed this car to top the competition during the mandatory autocross with a 32.222 second
recorded lap. This was the fastest recorded lap time of the event.
The C1RS was the unanimous winner of this years Street Machine of the Year award. Our congratulations go out to Barry
and the team at the Roadster Shop.
