| Car of the Week: Yenko Camaro |
|
Yenko Camaros were the creation of Pennsylvania car dealer named Don Yenko. Yenko started in 1967 replacing the 396 ci engines
with 427 ci engines. These engines generated an estimated 425 horsepower. However, many argue that the actual power was over 500 horses.
In 1967 Yenko created 54 Camaros. Of the 54 Camaros built in 1967 only a hand full are known to exist today.
In 1968, Yenko continued
to build these super Camaros. 1968 saw an increase in production of the Yenko Camaros and Chevrolet began to ship the cars to Yenko with the
427 engines already installed. As the cars proved themselves in performance and realiabilty Chevrolet became more interested and involved
with the Camaros.
In 1969 Chevrolet created two special options for the 1969 Yenko, the COP0 9561 and COPO 9737. These two special orders provided
a way of getting around the performance limits.
